What is AI&ES
The abbreviation AI&ES is used for the Master program Artificial Intelligence & Engineering Systems taught at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), of which the official website can be found here and the Education Guide here.
The study focuses on the interface between AI and engineer systems and gives students solid knowledge in Artificial Intelligence as well as a strong disciplinary foundation in Engineering Systems. It aims at understanding, using and developing real-life systems for new products in a wide area of applications, which is highly demanded by both industry and academia.
About the study
In the first quarter of their study, students choose one of the following 6 tracks in which they want to specialize:
- High-tech systems and robotics
- Mobility
- Healthcare
- Smart cities
- Science and Discovery
- Manufacturing systems
More information about the tracks can be found on this page.
Regardless of the chosen track, the program is structured into different components:
- 6 core courses in the fields of Mathematics, Learning in AI, Data Science, Engineering systems, Human interaction and ethics and Programming. These foundational courses provide students with a strong starting point and essential knowledge they can use for their specialization.
- 4 specialization courses in the fields of AI and engineering, Data cultivation, Learning and AI and a disciplinary engineering course. These courses are different per track, such that the students get the chance to specialize in their chosen field and focus on what interests them most.
- 3 free elective courses. These can be used for students to catch up on missing knowledge, broaden their knowledge, or dive deeper into specific topics.
- 1 challenge based team internship. This gives students the opportunity to collaborate in teams to apply their knowledge on Artificial Intelligence and Engineering Systems to resolve a practical engineering problem within a project either in a company, or with a laboratory set-up on campus. The project involves an application that is relevant to the specific track that the students follow in the AI&ES program.
- 1 Graduation project that is an individual research project worth 45 ECTS on a topic related to artificial intelligence in the context of engineering systems. This gives students the chance to apply all the knowledge they have gained in one big project to finish their Master program.
Mimir’s position
Mimir is the official study association of AI&ES. We mainly focus on students following this program, but also welcome others interested in this field. We will try to improve the experience of students, both professionally and socially.
We will try to do this by giving them the opportunity to get in touch with companies. For example by organizing excursions in which they get the chance to visit a company, lunch lectures in which they can get more information about a company, and giving them a place to find vacancies/interests on our website.
Next to this, we plan to help students in their social life by organizing social activities such as drinks to get to know their peers better and make new friends. We have already organized one official and one unofficial borrel, both of which were a success with a lot of students joining (around 50 on the official borrel).
