We visited Canon Production Printing in Venlo where we started our day at the Customer Experience Centre, where all Canon products are on display. Here we got to see the full range of products, the high volume printers and the precision 2.5 D UV-gel printers.

Afterwards, we went over to R&D, where we got a tour and a presentation of the daily work of two AI Professionals at Canon.

This was a borrel for our members (and other students) to get together. As a thank you for our members that have supported us from the start, the first 100 members could pick up a free Mimir mug.

Marnix Zoutenbier, the Chief Technology Officer of Demcon data driven solutions, talked about AI in all slices of life. 45 students saw a very interactive presentation where they could choose from 14 different projects, and he would tell more about them. This way, the presentation got tailored to the interests of the students.

His examples of Demcon’s variety of projects across all domains gave insights into the many fields in which the AI&ES domain can be applied.

 Two old AI&ES master students and current PhD’ers presented their research in AI for medical images and computer vision. Simon Penninga talked about generative AI techniques (diffusion models and VAEs) to create an agent that functions as an “active perceiver” in ultrasound imaging. Lemar Abdi presented on unsupervised out-of-distribution (OOD) detection using generative models.

Together with the faculty, we organized a lunch lecture. Marc Heemskerk, who is responsible for the AI integration within the ASML decision processes, gave us a presentation on how ASML and other industry leaders are leveraging AI to drive massive innovation and transformation. They use Computer Use Agents to revolutionize digital processes – a cutting-edge technology soon hitting the market in an Enterprise Ready form.

This was a moment for Mimir members to grab some provided lunch, and give feedback to the board, but also talk about other things.

This was a borrel for our members (and other students) to get together. Nothing official, just talking, catching up, and having a drink.

Together with master association Odin, we organized a trip to Den Helder for 30 members. Here we got a tour around ship Zr. Ms. van Amstel. After the lunch organized by Kivi, we visited the maritime warfare centre. Here we got a presentation from them and “data voor onderhoud”, responsible for the predictive maintenance project.

This was our first event, organised even before we existed. The goal was to organise a get together and show that we will exist soon. In total, around 50 people showed up.
